After being picked up, you will be taken to your accommodation in Rabat, where our team will guide you through the schedule for the next few days, including introductions to staff, fellow volunteers, and people at the centre.

Placement Orientation:
Your orientation is led by our friendly local staff and begins on the morning of your chosen start date. This session will cover everything you need to know for your volunteer program in Morocco, including an introduction to Moroccan culture and customs, program rules and expectations, travel opportunities within the country, and details about your specific project and placement. Orientation is also a great chance to get to know other volunteers, exchange contact details, and start planning weekend trips and social activities together.

Programs in Morocco begin every Monday. Volunteers are asked to arrive in Rabat on the Sunday before their start date for pickup and accommodation. Housing is provided from Sunday night through to Friday night of the final program week. If you arrive earlier or stay later than the scheduled dates, you can arrange extra nights directly with local staff.

Return transport to the airport is the volunteer’s responsibility, though local staff are happy to assist with arrangements.

Arriving by Air

• Rabat Airport: Most volunteers arrive via Rabat Airport, where you’ll be met by a local staff member holding a sign with your name. Once your flights are booked, it’s essential to share the details (airline and flight number) with the team so they can monitor for delays.
• Casablanca Airport: Casablanca is about an hour from Rabat and often has cheaper flights. Pickup from Casablanca is not included, but you can take a train to Rabat for around 90 MAD (US$9). From the airport, travel to Ain Sebaa, Casa Port, or Casa Voyageur station, then transfer to a train bound for Rabat Ville. Once your train is booked, contact your Program Manager to confirm pickup from Rabat station. More information on train schedules can be found here: ONCF Trains.

Arriving Overland

If you’re arriving by bus or train, plan to arrive in Rabat between 10:00am and 6:30pm. Notify the team in advance, and upon arrival, call your Program Manager (Mustapha) to arrange pickup from your accommodation or the station.

A Typical Volunteer Day

• 8:00 am – Breakfast with your host family
• 8:30 am – Leave for your placement
• 9:00 am – Arrive at the project site and meet with staff
• 10:00 am – Morning session begins, supporting staff with activities
• 12:30 pm – Lunch break
• 2:00 pm – Afternoon session begins
• 4:00 pm – Work finishes; volunteers are free for sightseeing or relaxation
• 8:30 pm – Dinner with host family

Weekends are free for exploring Rabat or traveling further afield. Many volunteers use long weekends to visit iconic Moroccan destinations such as Marrakech, Fez, Meknes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the Sahara dunes in Merzouga, or even hop across to Southern Spain, Portugal, or Gibraltar.

• Trek in the Atlas Mountains for breathtaking views and traditional Berber villages.
• Experience the Sahara Desert on a camel trek and spend the night in a desert camp.
• Discover the coastal city of Essaouira, known for its laid-back vibe and artsy atmosphere.

• Volunteers must be over 18 years of age at the beginning of the program.
• Volunteers must be able to understand and speak in English and/or French.
• Volunteers must have adequate travel insurance.
• Volunteers are required to observe the local customs and values while in Morocco.

Language requirement
It is not a prerequisite for volunteers to speak Arabic or French, however on certain placements, volunteers’ work will be restricted with limited Arabic and/or French language skills. Volunteers on the Teaching French project must be fluent in French.

There is an annual holiday that takes place in August. From August 10th up to September 04th of each year. Please check before booking. 

Morocco is a North African country known for its rich history, diverse landscapes, and cultural blend of Arab, Berber, and European influences. From the winding medinas of ancient cities to the vast Sahara Desert and the rugged Atlas Mountains, Morocco offers a breathtaking mix of tradition and natural beauty.
The country has seen strong growth in tourism and urban development, yet many rural communities continue to face social and economic challenges. Volunteers play an important role in bridging these gaps, offering support in education, health, and community projects while experiencing Morocco’s warm and welcoming spirit.

Mandarin Chinese is the official language, though dozens of other dialects and minority languages are spoken across the country. Religion in China is varied, including Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Christianity, and traditional folk beliefs, although religious practice is often closely monitored. Public transport is generally efficient, especially in major cities, and high-speed trains connect many regions. While China has embraced modern technology, customs such as Confucian respect for elders and community still play an important role in daily life.

Morocco’s climate is varied, depending on the region. Along the coast, including Rabat, you’ll find a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Inland areas, such as Marrakech, tend to be hotter in summer and cooler in winter. In the Atlas Mountains, the weather is much cooler and can even bring snow in the winter months, while the Sahara Desert is hot and arid year-round. The best times to visit for volunteering are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when temperatures are most comfortable.

Morocco’s culture is a vibrant blend of Arab, Berber, and French influences, shaped by centuries of history and trade. From the bustling souks filled with colourful textiles, spices, and handcrafted goods, to the melodic call to prayer echoing through ancient medinas, Moroccan life is rich in tradition.

Hospitality is at the heart of the culture—guests are warmly welcomed with mint tea, and sharing meals is seen as a way of building community. Music and dance, such as Gnawa rhythms and Andalusian melodies, add to the country’s lively spirit, while festivals and religious celebrations highlight the deep connection between faith and daily life. This unique mix of heritage and modernity gives Morocco a captivating and diverse cultural identity.
