Overview

Empower Syrian women to rebuild their lives in Syria on this sustainable initiative. Take part in teaching women vital skills to take back to their homeland – and for those without prior experience, you can still take part in teaching activities with the women’s children.

Background

The civil war in Syria has taken more than just homes—it has stripped away entire lives, memories, dreams, and futures. Streets once echoing with the laughter of children now lie in ruins. Fertile lands, once the backbone of communities, are now desolate and abandoned. Though the war has calmed, returning home remains a distant and complex hope for many Syrians.

In Turkey, countless Syrians long to return to their homeland. But how can they go back when their homes are destroyed, jobs lost, and land rendered unusable? With the European Union suspending new asylum applications and discussions around deportations growing louder, many refugees are caught in limbo. Turkey’s economic downturn has only worsened the situation, making it difficult for displaced families to build a sustainable life. This is where the Back To Home (BTH) Project comes in.

What is the BTH Project?

The Back To Home Project, is more than a return program—it’s a pathway to a new beginning. The project equips Syrians with essential skills, knowledge, and certifications to not only rebuild their own lives but to contribute actively to the reconstruction of their country.

BTH focuses especially on young Syrian women, including mothers, offering them vocational training and support to help create a self-sufficient and sustainable future.

Project Goals

At its core, BTH is a sustainable development initiative that empowers women to become agents of change. Through a holistic education model, the project fosters self-reliance by offering training in both vocational skills and entrepreneurship. These tools give women the confidence and capability to start anew—not only for themselves, but for their communities.

BTH is about more than returning. It’s about rebuilding lives from the ground up—carrying skills, strength, and hope into a new chapter.

Vocational Training Areas

  1. Basic Home Electricity
    • Covers electrical circuits, home systems, small appliance repair, and solar energy installation—vital skills for rebuilding infrastructure and restoring dignity.
  2. Sustainable Agriculture & Soil Restoration
    • Focuses on drought-resistant techniques, composting, organic fertilization, and permaculture—essential for food security and ecological renewal.
  3. Carpentry & Home Construction
    • Provides foundational construction skills to help rebuild homes and support community recovery efforts.
  4. Renewable Energy & Electronics
    • Teaches installation of solar systems and energy-saving practices—key to self-sufficiency and restoring Syria’s energy grid.

BTH Team Roles

A skilled and dedicated team will ensure the success of the BTH Project:

  • Teachers (4) – One per training module
  • Arabic-Turkish Translator – Ensures smooth communication
  • Social Worker – Leads educational activities for children
  • Driver – Manages daily transport
  • Project Assistant – Handles logistics and administration
  • Project Manager – Oversees coordination and outcomes

A Typical Day at BTH

Each day begins with the safe transport of women and children to the training centre. While the women attend skill-building sessions, children are guided through learning activities by the social worker. The translator bridges communication between participants and staff. At the end of every month, a graduation ceremony celebrates the participants’ achievements, awarding certificates and marking the beginning of their new journey.

Expected Impact

  • 400+ women and youth trained in practical skills
  • 800+ children supported in their educational development
  • 70% of participants expected to establish livelihoods
  • Many homes rebuilt or improved by returnees
  • Greater awareness and adoption of sustainable practices in both Syria and Turkey

Conclusion: A Path Forward

The Back To Home Project is not just a vocational training program—it’s a comprehensive transformation initiative. It restores dignity, builds resilience, and empowers refugees to reclaim their futures. Centered on skills, solidarity, and sustainability, BTH offers more than a way home. It offers a fresh start.

Turkey, a transcontinental country straddling Europe and Asia, offers a captivating tapestry of history, culture, and diverse landscapes. With its bustling metropolises like Istanbul, where East meets West, and ancient marvels like the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, Turkey is a unique blend of tradition and modernity. Its culinary scene, featuring delights such as kebabs and baklava, reflects a rich gastronomic heritage influenced by various civilizations.

The country’s warm hospitality and breathtaking natural beauty, from the Mediterranean coastline to the rugged landscapes of Cappadocia, make it a compelling destination for travellers. While Turkey thrives with economic dynamism and historical richness, it also faces challenges such as educational disparities and economic stability. However, the nation’s resilient spirit and ongoing efforts for progress underscore a story of contrasts and continuous growth, making Turkey a captivating and evolving part of the global tapestry.

Turkey experiences a diverse range of climates due to its varied topography and geographical features. In general, the country can be categorised into three main climate zones: a Mediterranean climate along the southern coast, a continental climate in the interior, and a Black Sea climate along the northern coast.

Mediterranean Climate:

    • The southern coastal regions, including popular tourist destinations like Antalya, experience a Mediterranean climate.
    • Summers are hot and dry, while winters are mild and wet.
    • This region is characterized by long, sunny days and relatively mild temperatures in winter.

Continental Climate:

    • The interior parts of Turkey, including cities like Ankara, have a continental climate.
    • Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F), while winters can be cold, with temperatures dropping below freezing.
    • Temperature variations between seasons are more pronounced in the continental climate zone.

Black Sea Climate:

    • The northern coastal areas along the Black Sea, such as Trabzon, experience a temperate climate.
    • Summers are warm and humid, while winters are cool and damp.
    • This region receives a significant amount of rainfall throughout the year.

Eastern Anatolian Climate:

    • Eastern Anatolia, characterized by high plateaus and mountains, has a harsher climate.
    • Winters can be extremely cold, with heavy snowfall, while summers are short and warm.

Aegean Climate:

    • The western coastal regions, including Izmir and Bodrum, have a climate similar to the Mediterranean but with some variations.
    • Summers are hot and dry, while winters are mild and wet.

The diversity of Turkey’s climate makes it a year-round destination, catering to various preferences from beachgoers to winter sports enthusiasts. However, travellers should be mindful of regional variations and plan accordingly based on the specific climate of the areas they intend to visit.

Turkey’s culture is a fascinating mix of old and new, shaped by its diverse history and welcoming people. The warmth of the Turkish people stands out, making hospitality a big part of their culture. They love sharing meals, especially their delicious cuisine that blends different flavours.

The Turkish language is like a common thread that connects the past and present, and their stories are told through both old and new writings.

In big cities like Istanbul, you’ll find a lively scene of art, movies, and music that adds a modern touch to the traditional culture. Families and communities are really important in Turkey, and they celebrate special occasions with lively festivals that show off their unique traditions.

In a nutshell, Turkey’s culture is a mix of the old and the new, offering a warm and rich experience for both locals and those excited to explore Turkish traditions.
