Spanish Lessons in Cartagena, Colombia

If you want to learn Spanish quickly and effectively to improve your communication skills then yes! This program also allows free time to experience an immersion into Colombian culture, meet people and enjoy local cuisine.

On the Monday of your first week at this location, you will join our orientation day, to familiarize you with the surroundings as well as local culture. Your program will continue as usual from Tuesday onwards throughout the rest of the week.

Schedule

• Introduction meeting, House rules, Setting Expectations, Health and Safety Advice and handling of documents.
• Colombian Do’s and Don’ts, Colombian Culture Lessons and basic survival Spanish Language Lessons.
• Lunch
• Tour around the compound and local area; where to find local shops, and arrange a sim card if necessary.
• Project preparation.
• Typical welcome dinner.

Programs begin every Monday, and volunteers are required to arrive the day prior, for orientation before the project. Your accommodation on the Sunday is included in the program fees.

A free airport pickup is included when arriving to Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG). You must arrive between 08:00 to 17:00 on Sunday. There is an extra fee for Saturday night accommodation and transfer. 

If you want to book any extra nights before or after your program, you can do this for an extra fee. 

Alternatively, if arriving early you could wait at the arrival’s terminal for the pickup time, book accommodation at the airport and meet us during the pickup times or make your own way to the project (we will advise on how to do this).

From CTG Airport to your accommodation by taxi it takes 20 minutes.

Monday (first week)

• Lunch
  Tour around the compound and local area; where to find local shops, and arrange a sim card if necessary

Tuesday to Friday

You will have four hours of class a day, for a total of 20 hours per week. A typical day may include:

• Breakfast
• Embark on your morning Spanish class (2 hours) at your learning destination.
• Lunch
• Proceed back to your engaging afternoon Spanish class (2 hours).
• Dinner

The remainder of the day is yours for independent learning or leisure time, allowing you to make the most of your newfound knowledge and explore at your own pace

Take a Boat Trip to the Rosario Islands – This group of islands is perfect for snorkelling, diving, and enjoying crystal-clear waters. Many tours include visits to private beaches and seafood lunches.

Experience the Nightlife in Getsemaní – This trendy neighbourhood is filled with street art, live music, and vibrant bars. It’s a great place to experience Cartagena’s energy, culture, and local flavours.

• Mask, Hand Sanitizer, Wet Wipes: Carry essential items for pandemic-era travel, including a mask, hand sanitizer, and wet wipes for extra cleanliness.
• First Aid Kit & Personal Medication: Prioritize safety by bringing a compact first aid kit with items like adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and any personal medications you require. Kindly inform program organizers of any specific medical needs in advance.
• Personal Toiletries: Your preferred personal toiletries will guarantee a comfortable and hygienic stay throughout your adventure.
• Sun Protection: Don’t forget to shield yourself from the sun’s rays when heading outdoors. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat that will keep you comfortable and protected during your outdoor explorations.
